Ouzinkie Native Corporation website.
The mission of Ouzinkie Native Corporation is to
"develop profitable business enterprises to provide
maximum financial return and other benefits to our shareholders, while preserving our culture and
protecting our lands."
Ouzinkie Native Corporation was formed as an Alaska native village corporation in 1973,
pursuant to the passage of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act of 1971.
Upon formation, there were 339 original shareholders, all of Alutiiq descent, and either
living in the village of Ouzinkie (near Kodiak), or were from the village.
Today there are approximately 410 shareholders. Approximately a third of the shareholders
live in Ouzinkie and Kodiak, a third live in the South Central Alaska and a third live in
the "lower 48," primarily in the Seattle area.
